In February of 2014, Blake Hyland’s life was changed forever…
A near olympic-level gymnast, 14-year-old Blake was practicing his vaulting in the gym as usual one night. He sprinted down the narrow lane of padding and vaulted off of the springboard high into the air. Flipping and spinning rapidly, he flew to the right side of the pit and his head smashed against the unprotected concrete floor
Blake was left in a deep coma, his friends and family clinging to hope for a miracle. The doctors gave him a 50/50 chance of even surviving, and beyond that could promise much less than a life in a vegetative state. After weeks of waiting and praying, his eyes opened. From then on, his family refused to believe in anything less than a full recovery.
HI IM BLAKE follows The Hyland’s struggle to paint a new picture for their lives. As Blake recovers, it is a mystery if he will ever walk again, gain an education, or return to his former life.
Filmed over the course of six years, this story captures the recovery of a boy with profound hope, the sacrificial love of a family, and seeks to answer the question, “When will Blake and his family be fully recovered?”
